Graham Potter has claimed that the Chelsea defender panics too much on the ball and he would have to monitor him; while highlighting his injury concern following Chelsea win over Aston Villa;
Mason Mount scored twice as Chelsea secured a 2-0 win against a tricky Aston Villa side as they moved up to fourth in the Premier League.
Graham Potter has revealed Chelsea will have to monitor Thiago Silva following the Blues' win over Aston Villa, with the Brazilian suffering from some tightness in his hamstring. The veteran put in another crucial display as Chelsea had to withstand a great deal of pressure from Steven Gerrard's side over the 90 minutes.Silva has played an increasingly key role during his time at Chelsea and has only been left out of the starting XI once this season, when he was absent from Potter's squad for Wolves. On that occasion the 38-year-old was recovering from a heavy cold and so far his body has withstood the rigours of a busy season.
The former AC Milan and PSG star made it through the whole match against Villa, albeit with a couple of pauses, and drew an impressive reaction from Chelsea's supporters following the game. Chelsea's head coach has been no less impressed by Silva's contribution.
"I’ve spoken about him a lot and I’ve said [coming off the pitch] that I think he has to relax a little bit more on the ball, he panics far too much!" Potter joked following the game.
"He is at the highest level you can think of as a character and as a man. How he leads the team, how he is playing, he has made some really important blocks and interceptions."
Some minutes into stoppage time, Thiago had gone down on the pitch with what seemed to be a slight discomfort, although the 38-year old returned to play. Graham Potter has updated on that:
"He has that know-how that you can’t put a price on. He felt a little tightness in his hamstring so we’ll see how he recovers for Wednesday but apart from that, he is a top person.”
Chelsea face Brentford on Wednesday, in an away fixture and the Blues will be hoping Thiago is fit for the tie.
