The Chelsea coach has explained the current situation surrounding the French man's contract situation at the club.
Graham Potter has revealed that the club will be looking out for N'Golo Kanté's fitness for the meantime before talks of a contract can emerge.Potter was speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference as we prepare to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League today, hoping to continue our head coach’s unbeaten start with Chelsea and a run of five games without conceding.
Earlier, there had been reports that Kanté had turned down a contract offer of two years with the option of a further year, while insisting on a full three year contract.
Reports also suggested the Frenchman was keen on a move to Real Madrid, and PSG monitoring his current situation.
Kanté is yet to feature in any game since Tottenham, following a hamstring setback that will leave him out of play for four months as confirmed by the club.
With his many injury woes, the Blues are considering Kanté 's fitness before they hand him a new contract.
'The most important thing for us and for me is that we help him get fit. That’s the focus,' he explained when asked about Kanté's contract situation.
'He’s got a long road ahead of him so we have to make sure that we get him the right treatment, we help him get back fit and strong, and once he’s enjoying his football we can think about those things then.'
For the meantime, Chelsea are already on the lookout for a potential replacement for N'Golo Kanté and RB Leipzig's Konrad Laimer has been identified as a potential successor, with the Blues set to battle both Liverpool and Bayern Munich for his signature.
