Chelsea begin advanced talks with RB Leipzig for £34m midfielder who could be Kanté long-term replacement given injury saga.
Following his many injury woes, Chelsea have begun fresh talks with RB Leipzig for Konrad Laimer as Kanté long-term replacement.
BILD have reported that Chelsea have joined Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the race to sign midfielder Konrad Laimer. The Austria international reportedly wants to leave Leipzig and is set to become a free agent next summer. The 25-year-old is understood to be looking for a fresh challenge, with a Premier League move an appealing proposition.
Laimer has made 167 appearances for Leipzig, and with N'Golo Kante's future at Chelsea up in the air with his contract up next summer, the Austrian midfielder could prove to be the ideal replacement.
Just yesterday, reports from the club's official statement had ruled Kanté out for four months after a surgery on his hamstring.
This suggests that the Blues will be without their key midfield man long-term and are desperately in need for a replacement. According to Fabrizio Romano, Laimer was supposedly a target of Liverpool's in the final week of the summer window before the Reds settled on bringing in Arthur from Juventus on loan.
Per Bild, via the Daily Mirror, Leipzig will only accept the departure of Laimer this summer if his £34m release clause is activated.
