'Would have been Zinedine Zidane or Mauricio Pochettino, no disrespect.' — Three Premier League Coaches react to Chelsea decision to appoint Graham Potter as Tuchel replacement.

Premier League bosses including Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have all lauded Potter following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea announced the appointment of Potter as their new head coach on a five-year contract on Thursday after the Blues decided to sack Thomas Tuchel.

Potter, 47, took charge of Brighton in 2019 – having left Swansea – and led the Seagulls to a ninth-place finish last term, marking the best-ever top-flight finish in the club’s history, while this season they sit fourth after their first six games.

The Englishman started his managerial career in Sweden with Ostersunds, guiding them from the fourth tier to the top flight for the first time ever, and also led them into the Europa League after winning the Svenska Cupen.

Premier League bosses including Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have all lauded Potter following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

‘I think it’s that next step for him, going into that club where there’s a different pressure,’ Rodgers said.

‘He’s done fantastic at Brighton, a club that’s really grown and developed since coming into the Premier League and [is] really strategically well run behind the scenes.

‘He’s been able to then, on the field, bring the players in and do some great work with them.

‘So, for him, I think it’s that next step and if that comes off that will be a fantastic move for him going into a great club with so many good players.’

Hasenhuttl added: ‘I must congratulate [Chelsea] on a very good choice, he is for me the manager in the past two seasons that has had the biggest impact on a club.

‘With all the limits they have and the transfers they gave away to other clubs, to still compete on the highest level shows how good this group was.

‘I know Pascal Gross who plays there and we speak often about the development of this club, he does a good job and has all the knowledge to step into a top club.’

Frank, meanwhile, said: ‘I am very happy for Graham that he got the chance at a club like Chelsea.

‘The easy pick would be to go for [Mauricio] Pochettino or [Zinedine] Zidane, no disrespect.

‘Two great, great coaches of world football and well known for what they have done.

‘But I am so pleased a coach like Graham, who has done in many, many ways a different route got acknowledged for the good job he has done and now gets the chance to compete at a club with Champions League football.’

Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.

OPINION: Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.  The Blues were back in Premier League action on Saturday, and had sealed a 3-0 victory over Wolves at the Bridge.  The game had seen goals come from the Blues' attacking options, something which had rarely been seen in the Tuchel era.  Not just that, there were noticeable changes and improvement in team set up that were not seen under the former German Boss. All of which will be highlighted below.  Firstly, the handing of debut to Chelsea's signing, Carney Chukwuemeka. Graham Potter's choice to hand one of his starlets a debut demonstrates the trust that he has in the young players at Stamford Bridge that can help him through a tricky run. It's harder than it seems to just trust the youth though.  Tuchel struggled to fully implement the pathway desired and was always focused on the here and now, the short term. He felt warmth with experience. Potter already looks to have brough...
