Rio Ferdinand names the Chelsea player who is becoming a problem for Thomas Tuchel.

The Manchester United Legend has urged the Chelsea star to ‘eradicate the mistakes’ and rediscover his Champions League-winning form after another shaky performance for Chelsea.

Rio Ferdinand has urged Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy to rediscover his form following shaky performance vs West Ham United that saw him dropped in Chelsea's Champions League opener for second choice keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Senegal shot-stopper was instrumental in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2021 but has not been at his best so far this season, with the Blues conceding nine goals in their first six games. Mendy should have done better to prevent West Ham’s opener at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and was then fortunate to be saved by VAR after the Hammers thought they had scored a late equaliser.

Ferdinand, speaking on Vibe with Five, said: ‘I think the biggest thing for Chelsea from this game is Edouard Mendy is becoming far too involved in situations like this.

'Against Leeds, he was at fault for the first goal. This one as well. There’s been other occasions where he’s made mistakes and hasn’t been punished.

‘They need to iron that out quick because he was brilliant last season, he was phenomenal. He needs to eradicate those mistakes from his game. You don’t want to be in the news as a goalkeeper. The less you talk about them the better they’re doing. At the moment he’s also in the news.’

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel addressed Mendy’s form after the 2-1 win over West Ham, insisting ‘things are going against’ his No. 1.

‘I think at the moment he is a bit unlucky in what he is doing,’ Tuchel said.

‘In training, he is fantastic, and he is, in general, a very calm and self-reflective guy who is aware that he lacks a little bit of luck at the moment.

'Things do not go in his favour. If he has maybe a situation where his action isn’t 100% clear, he gets punished for it massively.

‘He is just in this moment, and it feels like it’s not so much his fault. I have the feeling because he tries everything, he is very calm and focused. We will keep on supporting him.’

Chelsea’s comeback win over West Ham, inspired by goals from Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz, saw the Blues climb to sixth.

Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.

OPINION: Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.  The Blues were back in Premier League action on Saturday, and had sealed a 3-0 victory over Wolves at the Bridge.  The game had seen goals come from the Blues' attacking options, something which had rarely been seen in the Tuchel era.  Not just that, there were noticeable changes and improvement in team set up that were not seen under the former German Boss. All of which will be highlighted below.  Firstly, the handing of debut to Chelsea's signing, Carney Chukwuemeka. Graham Potter's choice to hand one of his starlets a debut demonstrates the trust that he has in the young players at Stamford Bridge that can help him through a tricky run. It's harder than it seems to just trust the youth though.  Tuchel struggled to fully implement the pathway desired and was always focused on the here and now, the short term. He felt warmth with experience. Potter already looks to have brough...
