REVEALED: Portuguese Coach turned down Todd Boehly's offer to replace Thomas Tuchel before Graham Potter was offered Chelsea job.

The Portuguese boss revealed he wants to continue his job at Lisbon as Coach

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim responds to claims he was approached by Chelsea to replace Thomas Tuchel.

• Ruben Amorim has reaffirmed his commitment to Sporting Lisbon amid suggestions he was approached by Chelsea to replace Thomas Tuchel.

German Coach, Thomas Tuchel  was axed on Wednesday morning following the west London club’s shock 1-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League the previous night.

However, Tuchel’s dismissal was believed to be less down to his underwhelming results on the pitch and more to do with off-field issues and a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s new owners.

Just a few hours after Tuchel was given his marching orders, Graham Potter met with Todd Boehly in London and was officially appointed as the club’s new manager the next day.

However, reports in Portugal claimed Chelsea’s owners had been contemplating parting company with their Champions League-winning manager for some time and reached out to Sporting Lisbon boss, Amorim in the days leading up to Tuchel’s sacking.

Boehly put in a phone call to the Portuguese coach – one of European football’s highest-rated young managers – and also sounded out other managers, such as Mauricio Pochettino.

While Amorim did not confirm whether any talks took place, he was keen to stress how committed he is to Sporting and suggested he rebuffed the approach.

Amorim and his team

Asked about the rumoured contact from Chelsea, the Sporting Lisbon coach told O Jogo: ‘The project I am in is the project I want.

‘I have another year and a half of contract; Chelsea have presented a coach for the next five years.

‘I am happy here and I am not thinking about another project.’

Potter, meanwhile, signed a five-year contract with Chelsea worth £10m per season, while the west London club also had to pay in excess of £12m to extract him and his coaches from their Brighton contracts.

Speaking about his move, Potter said: ‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

‘I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.’

Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.

OPINION: Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.  The Blues were back in Premier League action on Saturday, and had sealed a 3-0 victory over Wolves at the Bridge.  The game had seen goals come from the Blues' attacking options, something which had rarely been seen in the Tuchel era.  Not just that, there were noticeable changes and improvement in team set up that were not seen under the former German Boss. All of which will be highlighted below.  Firstly, the handing of debut to Chelsea's signing, Carney Chukwuemeka. Graham Potter's choice to hand one of his starlets a debut demonstrates the trust that he has in the young players at Stamford Bridge that can help him through a tricky run. It's harder than it seems to just trust the youth though.  Tuchel struggled to fully implement the pathway desired and was always focused on the here and now, the short term. He felt warmth with experience. Potter already looks to have brough...
