Medical Director who has been at Chelsea since 2011 leaves...

The long serving medical director has exited the club, following the continued overhaul in the Boehly era. 

Per the Telegraph, long-serving medical Chief, Paco Biosca has become the latest senior staff to leave Stamford Bridge under the Boehly regime. 

Since the start of the new era, the Blues have seen massive departures from the club, worthy of mention include Petr Cech, Marina Granovskaia, Bruce Buck and just recently, Thomas Tuchel's sack. 

 Paco Biosca was at the club for both Champions League wins. His departure comes at the end of another week of upheaval in which Chelsea sacked commercial director Damian Willoughby over evidence that he sent ‘inappropriate messages’ before he joined the club and announced the departure of director of communications Steve Atkins.

Biosca, 69 arrived at Chelsea in 2011, ahead of the club’s Champions League success the following year, and Biosca was still head of medical in 2021 when the club won the competition again under former head coach Thomas Tuchel.

First-team doctor Dimitrios Kalogiannidis will take interim charge of Chelsea’s medical department until a permanent replacement for Biosca is appointed. The club are not expected to make any official announcement at this stage per the Telegraph.

It was instructive that the club’s new owners decided to send summer signing Wesley Fofana to America for medical tests, rather than allowing the club’s own medical department to give the defender the all-clear.

The Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership recently completed a 100-day review of the club, which has resulted in a number of changes, including the sacking of Tuchel and departure of Biosca. The owners are determined to implement a collaborative culture in which employees connect across all areas of Chelsea, including the men’s, women’s and academy teams.

The volume of change since the Boehly-Clearlake takeover has been huge, with Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia, Petr Cech, Scott McLachlan and Tuchel and his backroom staff all leaving before Willoughby, who had been hired under the new ownership less than a month ago, Atkins and now Biosca.

Biosca, a Spaniard, was head of medical at Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk for six years before joining Chelsea. A specialist in orthopaedic surgery, he is a former president of both the European Federation of Orthopaedic and Sports Trauma and the Spanish Society of Sports Trauma.

City Football Group director of corporate affairs Toby Craig is set to join Chelsea in a commercial communications role, while the club still have respected senior communications manager Adrian Phillips who could take on extra responsibility to help cover for the loss of Atkins, who will join McLaren Racing in December.

Chelsea’s first-team players who have not been on international duty were given last week off by new head coach Graham Potter. They will return to work on Monday to start preparations for Potter’s first Premier League game in charge against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next Saturday.
