Chelsea have acted on their interest in Paris Saint-Germain football advisor Luis Campos by offering a huge deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge, according to reports in France.
The Blues are in a period of transition after sacking Thomas Tuchel last Wednesday, with chair Todd Boehly targeting an overhaul of the club's hierarchy. Graham Potter has been confirmed as Tuchel's replacement and the next item on the agenda is appointing a sporting directo
Despite his background being in business rather than football, Boehly has served as interim sporting director since the highly-regarded Marina Granovskaia left Chelsea in June. Campos would be more suited to the role having managed many clubs and worked behind the scenes for a host of European giants, including Real Madrid, Monaco and PSG.
The Portuguese, 58, has earned plenty of praise for his transfer dealings over the last decade and Boehly would like him to steer Chelsea through the next two windows. Le Parisien claims the Blues are willing to pay Campos €8million (£7m) and provide him with an enormous war chest of €300m (£260m) to build a squad suited to Potter's requirements.
Remarkably, the former football manager would be able to continue his advisory role with PSG - where he replaced former sporting director Leonardo this summer - and work for Chelsea simultaneously. The report claims Campos' contract with the Ligue 1 champions only prevents him from holding positions at more than three clubs.
Chelsea would be his third team, as he continues to work as sporting director for Spanish side Celta Vigo. That being said, as well as stumping up an eye-watering wage for Campos, the Blues would also need to pay a transfer fee of sorts to land their target.
News that Chelsea have pressed ahead and placed an offer to try and bring Campos to West London comes as a major blow to Manchester United. The Red Devils unsuccessfully targeted the executive in 2018 and were linked with him again two years later.
In a fresh update, would-be Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen on Campos after voicing his intent to buy the Old Trafford club from the Glazer family in August. "If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer," Ratcliffe's spokesperson told The Times. "If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership."
Ratcliffe has billions of pounds at his disposal and is the chief executive of INEOS, but his failure to make headway in his efforts to buy United gives Chelsea the chance to steal a march on their Premier League rivals and secure Campos' services.
