Per DiMarzio, Chelsea made a big late offer for Milan star and could return to the table.
AC Milan received a substantial offer from Chelsea for Rafael Leao right at the end of the transfer window but he was never close to leaving, it is claimed.
Leao began to become more intensely linked with a potential move to Chelsea as the summer mercato drew towards its conclusion, but in the end there was never anything to suggest his exit was imminent and he remained with Milan, who must now look into renewing his contract which expires in June 2024.
Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky spoke on the Football Daily broadcast (via MilanNews) and gave some interesting background on just how much Chelsea wanted Leao, stating that the Premier League club decided to offer €70-80m for the winger right at the end of the window.
However, Milan’s response was clear: there was no time to find a replacement and to complete such a big negotiation. Now Milan must renew Leao’s contract, otherwise Chelsea will return to the negotiating table for Leao in the coming months.
