REVEALED: One-time Manchester United Manager persuaded Tuchel from signing Ronaldo after talks.

Reports from Daily Mail claim that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel rejected the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo 'after speaking with former Man United boss Ralf Rangnick' even though the Blues board 'liked the idea of Ronaldo leading their attack'

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick reportedly advised Thomas Tuchel to not sign Cristiano Ronaldo per Daily Mail.

The 37-year-old told Manchester United he wants to leave earlier this summer in search of Champions League football.

Chelsea were one of the clubs in for Ronaldo but they eventually decided not to sign him following talks between Tuchel and club co-owner Todd  Boehly.

According to the Times, Boehly pushed for the signing of the Portuguese star as he liked the idea of building the attack around him.

But Tuchel opposed the transfer on the advice of close friend and former United boss Rangnick, who managed Ronaldo last term per The Daily Mail.

Rangnick's advice comes as no surprise after he criticised Ronaldo's pressing capabilities at the end of last season.

Speaking in May, the 64-year-old said: 'Cristiano Ronaldo, and I'm not blaming him at all, he did great in those games.

'But he's not a pressing monster. He's not a player, even when he was a young player, who was crying, shouting "hooray, the other team has got the ball, where can we win balls?"

'The same with quite a few other players so we had to make some compromises at one stage, maybe we made a few too many - that's also possible.'

Ronaldo missed most of pre-season, eager to exit Old Trafford for a team in Europe's elite competition.

The likes of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have also turned down the chance to sign him and boyhood club Sporting Lisbon are the latest club linked with him.

Erik ten Hag has insisted Ronaldo remains in his plans and United continue to stress he is not for sale. But their resolve could be tested ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

Ronaldo has started just one league game so far this season and he came off the bench to replace Jadon Sancho in Saturday's 1-0 win over Southampton.

Mixed reactions have trailed this report from Daily Mail. While others see it as a wrong move by Tuchel, some see it as a blessing in disguise.

SuperFrank of Chelsea News wrote:

"Thank goodness for that. The only thing worse than spending insane money on Anthony Gordon would have been spending any money (and insane wages) on a 37 year old Ronaldo, who has seriously disrupted the last two teams he played on.

"We imagine the temptation would have been too great for Todd Boehly to turn down if he’d got his manager’s green light. In fact, the report says our new owner actively pushed for it.

"So thank goodness Tuchel – via Rangnick – said no.

"Although if we end up spending that same money on an average player, it will all have been for naught."

Would Ronaldo have been a good addition to the Chelsea team, Blues?

Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.

OPINION: Graham Potter has succeeded in these three areas where Tuchel failed.  The Blues were back in Premier League action on Saturday, and had sealed a 3-0 victory over Wolves at the Bridge.  The game had seen goals come from the Blues' attacking options, something which had rarely been seen in the Tuchel era.  Not just that, there were noticeable changes and improvement in team set up that were not seen under the former German Boss. All of which will be highlighted below.  Firstly, the handing of debut to Chelsea's signing, Carney Chukwuemeka. Graham Potter's choice to hand one of his starlets a debut demonstrates the trust that he has in the young players at Stamford Bridge that can help him through a tricky run. It's harder than it seems to just trust the youth though.  Tuchel struggled to fully implement the pathway desired and was always focused on the here and now, the short term. He felt warmth with experience. Potter already looks to have brough...
