The former Chelsea star might have just the answer to Christian Pulisic's poor run of form.
Former Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud believes Christian Pulisic would play better with a target man on his side.
The current Chelsea number 10 has been on a poor run of form, and has been linked with a move away from Chelsea during the summer transfer window because of the lack of playing time that he is seeing so far in the Premier League campaign. Through the first five games of the season, the 23-year-old has only played a total of 96 minutes and he is not happy with his new role coming off the bench.
The American wanted to switch teams this summer because he wanted to arrive in peak form with the USMNT for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Unfortunately, Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, declined all the offers that were on the table, crushing Pulisic’s wish to move, leaving the player frustrated.
According to The Athletic, Christian Pulisic is “disappointed” with the Premier League side because they didn’t allow him to leave on a season-long loan. Per report, the 23-year-old was even facilitating the move in order for the deal to go through as quickly as possible before the end of the transfer window, but Boehly had the final say at the end of the negotiations.
An interview with Giroud sometime ago could be helpful in solving Pulisic's plights at the club. The former Chelsea striker had likened Pulisic to Eden Hazard, while reiterating that he best performs with a target man:
""I see Christian’s got big potential, he’s so easy by dribbling and taking on opponents," said Giroud.
“He’s a massive talent and top man and I’m proud to play alongside him. He reminds me of Eden [Hazard], but he still has room for improvement.
“We are very complementary with our qualities. He [Pulisic] needs someone like me, a target man, to have someone to play with for the one-two.
“I was doing it quite often with Eden, had a good understanding with him. We always try to find each other.”
With Christian Pulisic's new role under Tuchel, the Chelsea star has been a complete shadow of his former self. However, he will now have to fight for a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI, having yet to get a start this campaign. The American will have to showcase his talent in the few opportunities he receives from Tuchel and fight with Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount for the starting job.
Thoughts on this word from Giroud, Blues?
