Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is travelling to London to spark rumours of a late transfer in the summer window.
De Jong has been the subject of a fresh approach from Manchester United after boss Erik ten Hag urged the club to remain patient on a deal that has been in negotiations for over 16 weeks. As Mirror Football exclusively reported, United’s signing of Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro had not ended the club’s pursuit of the Barca star. Indeed, De Jong liked a social media post of Casemiro’s arrival as a United player, sparking more speculation.
United have offices in London and Erik ten Hag recently instructed United to remain patient on a deal after holding fresh talks with the player but Premier League rivals Chelsea are believed to also be keen on a move for the Dutch midfielder.
As per Fabrizio Romano, De Jong's move to London is not 'transfer-related', but the Barcelona midfielder is on holiday:
"Frenkie de Jong, traveling to London as he will be on holiday after some days off decided by Xavi - it’s not transfer related, no changes about his situation. 🛩🇬🇧 #FCB
"No talks with Liverpool: Frenkie has different plans, focused on staying at Barça but not open to salary cut."
The report from Fabrizio also suggest Frenkie will remain at Barcelona, and is not open to any reduction in salary.
The Premier League will close the transfer window on Thursday, September 1 at 11pm BST and Chelsea's quest for a versatile midfielder has not yet been solved.
