£200,000 per-week player set to join Chelsea after agreeing personal terms; contract underway.


 As per Fabrizio Romano, 21-year old France international and Leicester City centre-back, Wesley Fofana have agreed personal terms with Chelsea. The ever-reliable media personality confirmed that once a deal is struck with Fofana, contracts will come next:

"Wesley Fofana has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, so the contract would be ready in case the two clubs find an agreement. 🚨🔵 #CFC

"Chelsea are preparing a new bid as they want Fofana as priority target. Leicester insist on their position. Tough one, but still open."

The reports suggest that Chelsea are preparing a new bid as they want Fofana as priority target, with Leicester insisting on a fee of £80m in excess - so higher than the fee United paid for Harry Maguire back in 2019. 

According to MailOnline , Chelsea would have to tie Fofana with a contract worth around £200,000 a week in order for a transfer to materialise, and the Blues may need to make him the most expensive defender in football.

Reports from DiMarzio already suggest that Fofana has asked to leave Leicester City, with Fabrizio Romano also confirming same on YouTube:

"Wesley Fofana has been clear with Leicester, the board and his manager his desire is to join Chelsea as soon as possible, Fofana knows that Boehly and Tuchel are doing their best. In the next days, Chelsea will submit a new bid, they feel that they can do it."

These reports suggest how much of a priority target Fofana is for Chelsea, and Chelsea could go any length in acquiring his signature.  

Meanwhile, mixed reactions have surfaced from Chelsea's £80m+ chase for Fofana. 

Pundit, and transfer insider, Dean Jones thinks it is crazy that Chelsea could end up paying more than £80m to sign Fofana.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said:

 “It’s crazy, really. I mean, we are genuinely looking at here one of, if not the biggest, deal we’ve ever seen for a defender. That’s how significant this transfer is starting to look now. It’s mad that this is where it’s ended up.”

Kalidou Koulibaly has settled in nicely in that left centre-back position at Chelsea. In the heated 2-2 clash against Tottenham on Sunday, no defender in blue made more tackles than the Senegal international (via WhoScored).

As for Thiago Silva, who plays in the middle of Tuchel’s back three, he continues to perform despite turning 38 next month, winning Sky Sports’ Player of the Match award against Everton the game prior.

When you consider all of that, if Fofana does arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, he will probably be used as a right centre-back. And at just 21, it is a position he could perhaps hold down in west London for years to come.

£80m plus is indeed a crazy amount of money to pay, but it is clear that Chelsea see Fofana as someone who can thrive in their defence both now and in the future, so there is some logic in going all out for his signature.

    It's absolutely crazy to but a young player that hasn't shown qualities of greatness for that amount of money. Chelsea should focus on the attack more than the center back, cause at least there's a balance at the back.
